A Clearer Perspective on Headache Relief

Specialised physiotherapy in Bondi Junction to help you move beyond chronic pain and migraines

A headache isn’t just a clinical symptom; it’s a stolen afternoon, a missed workout, and a fog that stands between you and your day.

Headaches: More Than Just a Symptom

With up to 7 billion workdays lost globally each year to headaches, it is a condition that is frequently endured but often misunderstood. Whether your pain is a dull throb from long hours at a screen, a sharp migraine that stops you in your tracks, or chronic tension that has become your "normal," it can quickly become a recurring cycle without the right clinical intervention.

At Vantage Point Physiotherapy, we don’t just treat the sensation; we provide a clear, personalised roadmap to help you identify the "why" behind your headaches—whether they stem from the neck, posture, or the nervous system; and build long-term confidence in your recovery.

Expert Care to Clear the Fog

We understand how disruptive a headache can be; limiting your ability to focus, enjoy time with family, or even tolerate light and sound.

Our team, led by APA Titled Musculoskeletal Physiotherapists, is dedicated to restoring your clarity and comfort. Through evidence-informed treatments, including specialised techniques like the Watson Headache® Approach, we focus on:

  • Precision Diagnosis: Identifying if your neck (the upper cervical spine) is the hidden driver of your headache or migraine.

  • Manual Therapy & Desensitisation: Using gentle, targeted mobilisations to reduce the frequency and intensity of attacks.

  • Sustainable Relief: Ergonomic coaching and neck-strengthening to break the cycle of tension and prevent future flare-ups.

Expert Care for Headache & Migraine

At Vantage Point, your recovery is guided by APA Titled Musculoskeletal Physiotherapists. Our clinicians bring advanced clinical expertise to the management of different headaches, such as:

Cervicogenic Headache

A cervicogenic headache is a secondary headache that originates from dysfunction in the cervical spine — particularly the upper neck joints, discs, or muscles. Cervicogenic headaches are referred from the neck, often felt on one side of the head, around the eye, or at the base of the skull.

Common causes include poor posture, prolonged desk work, previous whiplash or neck injuries, and conditions like cervical arthritis. Headaches may worsen with neck movement, sustained positions, or after sleeping in an awkward position. Working with a skilled headache physiotherapy clinician can help target these underlying issues.

Tension Type Headache

Tension-type headaches are the most common form of headache and are often described as a dull, persistent pain or pressure around the head. They usually do not cause nausea or sensitivity to light. This type of headache is often linked to muscle tightness in the neck, shoulders, and scalp. Common triggers for tension-type headaches include stress, poor posture, extended hours of desk work, eye strain, or inadequate sleep. A tailored headache physiotherapy program can address muscle imbalances and posture issues, fatigue or tension that may be contributing to your symptoms.

Migraine with & without Aura

Migraines are intense, recurring headaches that are often accompanied by additional symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and heightened sensitivity to light, sound, or smell. Migraines typically affect one side of the head and may last anywhere from a few hours to several days.

Migraine triggers vary widely and can include stress, hormonal changes, certain foods, dehydration, and changes in sleep patterns. Environmental factors like bright lights, strong smells, or loud noises can also provoke a migraine. In some cases, neck dysfunction or poor posture may contribute to the intensity and frequency of migraines.

Whiplash Associated Disorders

Whiplash-associated disorder (WAD) refers to the soft tissue injuries and associated symptoms that occur following a sudden acceleration-deceleration injury, such as a car accident. This condition may cause pain in the neck, shoulders, and head, and is often accompanied by stiffness, dizziness, and difficulty concentrating.

The primary trigger for WAD is a whiplash injury, which occurs when the head is rapidly forced forward and then backward. This kind of injury can damage the muscles, ligaments, and joints in the neck, leading to pain and discomfort. Additional stress on the neck or poor posture may aggravate symptoms, leading to chronic pain or headaches.

Vestibular Migraine

Vestibular migraine is a type of migraine that causes dizziness or vertigo, in addition to the usual symptoms of a migraine, such as headache, nausea, and light sensitivity. It affects the balance system in the inner ear, leading to episodes of dizziness or a sensation of spinning.

Vestibular migraines can be triggered by many of the same factors as regular migraines, such as stress, hormonal changes, certain foods, dehydration, and sleep disturbances. Additionally, changes in head position or neck dysfunction may aggravate symptoms, leading to more frequent or intense episodes of dizziness.

Concussion & Post Concussion Syndrome

A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury caused by a blow to the head, sudden impact, or violent shaking. Post-concussion syndrome refers to a set of symptoms that persist for weeks, months, or even longer after the initial injury. Symptoms include headaches, dizziness, difficulty concentrating, and fatigue.

Concussion symptoms are often triggered or worsened by physical exertion, loud noises, bright lights, or cognitive strain. Neck pain or dysfunction, as well as vestibular (balance) disturbances, are common in those experiencing post-concussion syndrome and can exacerbate symptoms like headaches and dizziness.
